Jalingo Outrage has erupted across Taraba State following an alleged attack in which a housewife, identified as Ramatu Abbas, reportedly disfigured the face of a 17-year-old girl, Iwasen Terhemba, with a razor blade.
The incident, said to have occurred in Donga town, Donga Local Government Area, was allegedly triggered by the woman’s suspicion that her husband had an interest in the teenager.
According to reports, the victim, who resides with her guardian, Jemila Wanga, had on several occasions been approached by Ramatu’s husband but consistently turned down his advances, insisting she was not interested. Despite this, the wife allegedly acted on suspicion and, in the absence of the guardian, stormed the residence and attacked the teenager, leaving her with facial injuries.
The development has drawn widespread condemnation from residents, many of whom have demanded that justice be served.
Confirming the incident, the Spokesman of the Taraba State Police Command, Victor Mshelizah, said the matter was already being handled by the police. He disclosed that the suspect has been taken into custody, while the victim is currently receiving treatment.
“The suspect is in custody, and the victim is recovering. The case will soon be charged to court,” he stated.
Members of the public have urged relevant authorities to ensure the matter is thoroughly prosecuted, stressing that decisive action would serve as a deterrent to similar acts in the future.
