Construction activities have intensified at the Nsukka International Market located along the Agbani–Obimo axis, with ongoing road demarcation and drainage development aimed at boosting economic activities in the area.
The project, initiated by the Nsukka Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Engr Jude Chinedu Asogwa, has recorded fresh milestones with the excavation of drainage systems and the layout of access roads within the market परिसर. These developments are expected to enhance accessibility, improve the business environment, and support smooth commercial operations upon completion.
Officials say the latest phase of work marks a significant step in the broader infrastructural upgrade of the local government area. The road demarcations, in particular, are designed to create an organized market structure that will facilitate easier movement for traders and customers alike.
Strategically located, the market is positioned to serve several surrounding communities, including University Estate Nsukka, Nguru, Obimo, Agbani, and Odoru, making it a key commercial hub with strong growth potential.
Residents of the benefiting communities have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work, especially the drainage construction, which they believe will address longstanding flooding and erosion challenges along the Obimo–Nsukka–Uzo-Uwani road corridor.
The project also aligns with the broader economic vision of the Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, which seeks to expand the state’s Gross Domestic Product. Authorities had earlier assured that traders displaced by the development of the modern transport terminal at Ogige Market would be given priority in shop allocation at the new facility.
The council chairman reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project, emphasizing that all necessary measures are being taken to deliver the market within schedule.
