The people of Enugu North Senatorial District, also called the Nsukka Zone, have pledged to deliver over 50 percent of the total votes that will be cast in Enugu State in 2023 general elections to the governorship candidate and other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on behalf of the party stakeholders and the people of the zone in Ogrute, the headquarters of Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, Wednesday, Hon. Mike Onyeze who is the party zonal chairman in Enugu North Senatorial District, congratulated Barr. Peter Mbah and Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the party’s standard flagbearer and his running mate, respectively, saying that their victory at the primary election which held May 25, 2022 reflected the general wish of the people.

Onyeze who described Mbah as a credible figure whose candidature could not be disputed maintained that his pedigree had already started marketing him before the masses as someone with unblemished track record and high-flying achievements in many sectors of the economy.

Highlighting the key role played by Odimma Nsukka, the political gladiator stressed that the pan-Nsukka socio-political organisation embarked on what he christened, ‘house-to-house’ sensitization telling people about his staunch background in private sector and experiences in leadership.

On Mbah’s mandate to fly the party banner in next year’s governorship election, the zonal chairman said his emergence was the result of the concerted efforts from different quarters of the society including his immediate people of Enugu East Senatorial District.

“We the people of Nsukka (Enug North Senatorial District) through the efforts of Odimma Nsukka marketed you before our people. We were preaching your gospel and making a compelling case on your behalf. Your people too played a vital role in securing your victory. We saw them touring the state in the struggle to ensure the right thing was done.

“Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi made a wise decision and resisted some non-PDP members from Nsukka from sowing a bad seed in the name of imposition of candidates.

“Chief Ifeanyi Ossai that you graciously picked as your running mate is the chief driver of Odimma Nsukka. We thank you for considering him worthy to be your running mate. Your humility has won you a landslide victory already. We the people of Nsukka will deliver more than 50% of the total votes that will give you victory,” he added.

Also speaking, a former local government chairman of the area, Comr. Uwakwe Ezeja saluted the resolve of Governor Ugwuanyi and other stakeholders in the state on the emergence of Mbah as the PDP governorship flag-bearer, adding that their consultation and decision were guided by God.

Appealing to the people of Igboeze North council area who came out en masse to continue to remain steadfast and faithful to the party, Ezeja told them to eschew misinformation by mischief makers as PDP had always been speaking with one voice, maintaining there’s no opposition in Igboeze North.

“We are following you. The difference between now and when you will be sworn in as governor is just time and date. We are very sure you’re going to win, and we want to be part of the success story. When the former APC governorship candidate who is from our local government came out in 2019, despite coming from this side, we gave him a chase through our votes for the PDP. We sent him to political retirement,” Ezeja boasted.

…as Reps member, Atigwe dismisses opposition in Igboeze North as inconsequential

Meanwhile, the member representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Simeon Atigwe has dismissed any presence of opposition parties in the council area, saying all they were hearing were mere noises from inconsequential elements. Describing Mbah as unopposed in the State, Atigwe maintained that Governor Ugwuanyi averted the State from derailing into the hands of those he called, ‘bad drivers’ by making sure that those that would take over from him were professional drivers that would propel the state to new heights.

Emphasizing that PDP was unstoppable in the council area, Atigwe mocked those that couldn’t win their polling units even as they claimed to be leaders of the opposition. He commended the sacrifices made by Governor Ugwuanyi in ensuring that development infrastructure and dividends of democracy were attracted to the area.

“Governor Ugwuanyi has done well for us. We cannot quantify what he has done for us. He is a peaceful man and because of him, Enugu State is peaceful. Igboeze North is for PDP, and PDP will remain unstoppable here. While we came third in the last general elections, we are mobilizing our people to see that we deliver the first position to the PDP in next year general elections,” he said.
