The NPFL Week 35 played between Rangers International Football Club of Enugu and Enyimba FC of Aba, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Sunday ended in inconclusive as Enyimba fans disrupted the game in the dying minutes.
Enyimba players refused to continue with the game after Rangers were awarded a penalty a few minutes to the end of the game.
The first half had ended goalless. Every effort made by Rangers to open the scoring proved abortive as they were met by a resolute Enyimba defending. Rangers missed many scoring chances.
However, close to the end of the game, a penalty was awarded to Rangers when one of its attackers was pulled down in the penalty area.
Enyimba players and management refused to accept the penalty and therefore withdrew their players who already started attacking the linesman from the field.
Enyimba fans sensing that they may lose the game became violent, throwing missiles into the pitch and eventually evading the pitch. They also attacked the linesman who had drawn the attention of the centre referee to the penalty incident.
Officials of the NPFL will decide whether to award Rangers the maximum three points to be the league leader with 64 points or reschedule for the remaining minutes of the game to be completed.
The match attracted a record crowd.
