Biography of Chief Mrs. Ugwu Amushi Janeth (Fondly Known as D Jane)

Chief Mrs. Ugwu Amushi Janeth, affectionately known to many as D Jane, was born in 1916 into the illustrious family of Nwobodo Nnamchi Nwarum of the Umuaniona Kindred in Amechi Uwani, Awkunanaw. Her life spanned an incredible 108 years, during which she touched countless lives with her kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to family and community.

In 1936, at the age of 20, Janeth married Chief Amos Ugwu Amushi Ugwu Aniagu of the Umukwu Amagu Akegbe Ugwu Awkunanaw. Together, they embarked on a journey that took them to Makurdi in Benue State, where they established a successful restaurant business. The couple's life was marked by partnership and resilience, as they worked together to build a legacy that would impact generations to come.

Their time in Makurdi came to an end when Chief Amos Ugwu Amushi fell ill, prompting them to return to Enugu. After a brave battle, he passed away on March 21, 1981. Though heartbroken by his passing, Janeth continued to live a life full of purpose and strength, dedicating herself to the family and ensuring they felt loved, supported, and rooted in tradition.

D Jane was a woman of remarkable qualities. She was known for her neatness, her physical strength even in her later years, and her ability to speak multiple languages—a skill she passed on to her family with pride. Her faith in God was a cornerstone of her life; as a devoted member of the Christ Ascension Church, she dedicated countless hours to worship and fellowship, often bringing her family with her. Her passion for music led her to teach her grandchildren various musical instruments, fostering a love for music within the family that became a cherished tradition.

Beyond her role in the church, D Jane was an active and respected member of Uyom Di. Her commitment to this group reflected her love for her community and her unwavering belief in the strength of collective unity. Her generosity and compassion were legendary—qualities that made her a mother not only to her own children but to everyone around her. She had a heart of gold, always willing to go to great lengths for the well-being and happiness of those she loved. In the Onovo Aniagu family, her selflessness became a guiding light, and her legacy of peace and progress remains deeply rooted in the family values.

Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Most of them shared a close bond with her, often sleeping in her room even into adulthood. Her room was a sanctuary filled with warmth, wisdom, and her continuous prayers for the peace and prosperity of her family. D Jane was a firm believer in instilling strong values and took every opportunity to guide and advise her family on the principles of integrity, respect, and kindness.

Janeth’s life was one of unwavering devotion—to her family, her faith, and her community. Her presence, marked by boundless love and strength, was the cornerstone of the family’s unity and resilience. Chief Mrs. Ugwu Amushi Janeth departed this world on October 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will endure through the lives of those she touched. While her departure has created a profound gap, they take comfort in knowing that her spirit continues to watch over them.

Grandma, D Jane, as you will be laid to rest on Friday, 15th November, 2024, your kindness, wisdom, and prayers will remain with us. Your grandchildren, your children, and future generations will forever hold your memory close to their hearts. Go well, beloved D Jane. Adieu, till we meet again in the peace of eternity.
