The Nigeria Police Force has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy across the country following an interim court order restraining the action.

The Police had earlier announced on December 15, 2025, that enforcement of the policy would resume from January 2, 2026, as part of measures to enhance public safety and internal security.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the Police were served with an interim court order on December 17, 2025. The order, issued in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, bars the Force from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the lifting of the order.

Accordingly, the Police stated that the enforcement has been placed on hold nationwide in compliance with the court directive.

The Force also confirmed that it has entered an appearance in the case, raised preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order. The matter has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the Police would continue to uphold constitutional provisions while discharging their core responsibility of protecting lives and property through lawful and intelligence-led approaches.

The Nigeria Police Force further assured Nigerians that it would provide timely updates and clear guidance as the court considers the matter, in the overall interest of public order and national security.
