The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has established a Security Academy to offer comprehensive training and education in various fields of security and cybercrime.
The institution highlighted its dedication to advancing indigenous technology while forming strategic partnerships aimed at equipping staff and alumni to play key roles in Nigeria’s industrial and global development. The Academy will issue certificates in security, making graduates eligible for employment and consultancy roles.
Speaking at the institution’s 52nd Founders’ Day celebration, Rector Prof. Gozie Ogbodo announced that the IMT is positioning itself as a center of innovation, community impact, and international relevance.
"We’re addressing security gaps driven by the evolving nature of tech-related crimes. The Academy, which is already operational, will offer hands-on security training and award certificates to enhance employment and consultancy prospects. Too often, individuals are hired into security roles without proper training—this initiative aims to change that,” he said.
Founded in 1973, IMT has continued to uphold its identity as an autonomous, forward-thinking institution committed to knowledge, character building, and national development.
Prof. Ogbodo also revealed that eight departments at IMT are now affiliated with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), for degree programs, with more affiliations expected in the future.
To remain competitive in the ever-evolving tech landscape, the Rector emphasized the need for a shift in mindset among staff, diversified revenue streams, enhanced teaching and research, infrastructure upgrades, ICT-led innovation, and a focus on accountability and transparency.
He further shared that the school has achieved 100% accreditation for its programs, launched nine new academic courses, introduced a faculty-based examination system, and taken a strong stance against misconduct, including extortion, sexual harassment, and other forms of indiscipline.
Additional reforms include the implementation of student health insurance, restoration of campus water supply, hostel and lecture hall renovations, revitalization of the Industrial Centre, and development of a Knowledge Centre for German studies. The school has also expanded its enterprise initiatives—now including bread and water production, a photo studio, radio, TV, newspaper, and partnerships with firms like Dewdrops Hospitality, Uli Furniture, and IMT Farm.
Prof. Ogbodo encouraged both staff and students to remain committed to the founding values of the institution, assuring them that his administration is fully invested in transformative initiatives for IMT's continued growth.
