Security authorities in Sokoto State have confirmed that no lives were lost following a U.S. airstrike in Jabo community, Tambuwal Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Area Commander in charge of Tambuwal LGA, Muhammed Augie, who visited the scene of the incident, declined to give details on the operation. He, however, cautioned residents through the district head of Jabo, Alhaji Abubakar Jabo, against visiting the affected area or tampering with debris from the explosion.
Reports from the community indicate that some residents had collected metal fragments from the site, largely driven by economic hardship and poverty.
The Commandant of Base 15 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Sokoto, Hassan Jatau, said the area was immediately secured to prevent possible injuries from unexploded materials. He emphasized the need for sustained public awareness, noting that the absence of casualties was fortunate. “We were very lucky that no one was injured as a result of the bombing,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Sokoto State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, the Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Mohammed Gobir, was expected to visit the area and address the situation.
Authorities confirmed that no residential buildings were damaged by the airstrike, while security agencies continue to monitor the location to ensure the safety of residents.
The police and military have reiterated their call for vigilance and strict adherence to safety advisories to avoid injuries from bomb remnants or secondary explosions.
