The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced the appointment of internationally acclaimed scholar, Professor Uchenna Okeja, as a Visiting Professor.
The appointment, disclosed by the university on December 18, 2025, reflects UNN’s commitment to promoting academic excellence, strengthening global engagement, and advancing impactful scholarship.
Professor Okeja is a highly respected academic whose research and intellectual leadership have earned him international recognition. He has built an extensive academic career across leading universities and research institutions worldwide, including Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the University of British Columbia, Goethe University, Rhodes University, the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in Bad Homburg, the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, and the University of St. Gallen.
A Research Professor at Nelson Mandela University, Professor Okeja also serves as a Visiting Professor and Presidential Fellow at Yale University. His scholarship is widely regarded for its depth, originality, and global relevance, shaped by years of academic engagement across Europe, North America, and Africa.
UNN expressed optimism that his appointment would significantly enhance research output, mentorship, and international collaboration within the university. His presence is expected to enrich the institution’s intellectual environment, expose students and faculty to global best practices, and support capacity building in line with the university’s strategic academic objectives.
