An attempted coup was foiled early this morning in Benin after a group of around ten soldiers stormed the national television station. The mutineers briefly broadcast a message announcing the removal of President Patrice Talon and the establishment of a transitional committee led by an officer claiming to be Lieutenant Colonel Tigri Pascal.
According to security sources, the Republican Guard quickly intervened to neutralize the group and regain control of the strategic infrastructure.
Security sources also report that President Patrice Talon is safe and sound and in a secure location. An official statement is expected in the coming hours to clarify the circumstances of this attempt at destabilization and the measures taken to ensure national security.
