Court Sentences Salome Adaidu’s Killer to Death by Hanging

Justice prevailed on Tuesday as the High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, delivered a landmark judgment in the murder of Miss Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was gruesomely murdered while serving the nation.

Presiding judge, Justice Simon Aboki, found Oluwatimileyin Ajayi guilty of the brutal crime of culpable homicide. The court determined that Ajayi was responsible for both the killing and the dismemberment of the young corps member.

In his ruling, Justice Aboki stated that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. As a result, Ajayi was convicted under Section 221 of the Penal Code (Northern Nigeria), which mandates the death penalty for culpable homicide.

The court accordingly handed down a death sentence by hanging, sending a firm message against violent crimes, especially those committed against young Nigerians in national service.

Salome Adaidu’s tragic demise ignited national outrage and intensified demands for better protection and welfare for NYSC members. Her story captured the public’s attention, with many calling for swift and uncompromising justice for her grieving family.

Further developments and official reactions are expected in the coming days.
