New facts are beginning to emerge following yesterday’s formal campaign flag off of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, and the huge crowd that attended the ceremony.

The well-attended flag off campaign rally has been described as a show of supremacy and force by the PDP, asserting its dominance in the state and sending a strong message that PDP was and still in charge of the state.

The rally, which attracted thousands of party faithful, supporters and eminent political stakeholders across party lines did not come to an end without the impact and enthusiasm of some local governments areas, support groups, and other pro-PDP professional bodies.

In particular, while the presence of the 17 local government areas were felt at the rally, the show put up by the stakeholders of Nkanu East local government council will continue to engage the interest of public affairs analysts, members of the opposition parties, and the general public.

The mammoth crowd from the local government area could be seen adorned themselves with colourful uniforms, with drums rolled out to welcome and entertain the guests at the event.

Our correspondent who walked around the various tents and canopies where different support groups occupied, observed that Nkanu East had the largest numbers of canopies at the rally with the council chairman, Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, leading the people.

Addressing newsmen at the flag off ground, the chairman said the secret behind the huge mobilisation was to pass unambiguous and clear message to the state that Nkanu East people are fully in support of the governorship candidate, Dr. Peter Mbah, who is from the council area, and would go any length to ensure his electoral victory.

According to Hon. Edeh, they’ve to take ownership of the project and set the pace for others to follow, maintaining that Nkanu East has been reaching out to other local government areas in order to woo more voters to boost the chances of the guber flagbearer.

He said: “Today’s massive support for our leader, party governorship candidate and the next governor of the state, Dr. Peter Mbah, is a message that the people of Enugu State are solidly behind him. Just look at the cheering support base. Even members of the opposition parties have told the whole world they’re voting for him.

“This project is our project and we don’t need people to remind us our responsibility. That’s why we are fully mobilized for it. Our people are happy with him because they know his master plan for the state. They know it is only him that has the leadership qualities and experiences to give the state a new economic outlook.

“I want to express my profound gratitude to all the people across the state rooting for the candidacy of Dr. Mbah. They’re not doing it out of selfish motives but for the future of their children and for prosperity of the state. We are convinced that with him, our tomorrow is here, and that better, greater and excellent Enugu State of our dreams are achievable under him.”

The chairman further appealed to eligible voters not to miss the opportunity to collect their permanent voter’s cards which will enable them to vote for the PDP and be part of the epoch-making of greatness.
