It was a joyful mood at the Umuatugbuoma Health Center in Akegbe Ugwu community as the center delivered her first baby, barely nine days after being commissioned and operationalized by Nkanu West Local Government Council.

Recall that AnchorNews reported the commissioning and operationalizing of the health facility on 1st of August, 2023. The event which took place at Akpasha, attracted stakeholders from the community, representatives of Enugu State Primary Healthcare Board among others.

In his resolve to take healthcare services closer to the people, and to consolidate the effort of his predecessor, Hon Chief Nwabueze Nnamani (Ikeoha), the incumbent Council Boss, Hon. Uchenna Callistus Ejim equipped the health center with basic hospital equipments needed for a smooth takeoff, and consequently commissioned it to commence full operation.

During the commissioning of Umuatugbuoma Health Center, the first lady of Nkanu West LGA, Hon. Mrs Onyinye Ejim pledged to pay the bills and provide hospital requirements for the first three deliveries at the facility.

In keeping to her promises, Mrs Ejim visited the Umuatugbuoma Health Center earlier today Thursday 10th of August 2023 to welcome the first baby of the facility and redeem her pledge. She settled the hospital bills and also presented some gift/food items to the family of the newborn baby.

The first lady while congratulating the family of the newborn baby and the people of Umuatugbuoma, thanked God for using the current administration of Nkanu West LGA to put smile on the faces of the masses. She charged the staff of the centre to ensure good maintenance culture in handling the facility, stressing that "if you handle this healthcare facility very well, it will continue to attract people from within and outside this community".

She thanked the wife of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah for her undying love for infants, mothers, downtrodden and vulnerable members of the society which she has transmitted to wives of Council Chairmen in Enugu State.

Reacting to the gesture of the first lady, the mother of the child, Mrs Ogochukwu Ani expressed her great joy and happiness. She thanked the first lady and her husband, the Council Chairman for bringing the health facility closer to them.

"This is the first time I am having a child delivery without stress. I must thank the local government chairman for ensuring that this health center started functioning. With the closeness of this health facility, I can walk down here for medical attention. Our nurses are good and passionate about their job", said Mrs Ani.

Speaking to AnchorNews reporter, the OIC of Umuatugbuoma Health Center, Mrs Faith Nnaji confirmed that the mother and the new baby are both in a very good condition.

While thanking God for the safe delivery of the first baby of the centre, she commended Hon. Uche Ejim for providing adequate assistance to ensure that the centre functions optimally.

She noted that "this Umuatugbuoma Health facility is currently one of the best in Nkanu West LGA. We had a smooth takeoff after the commissioning on 1st August this year because the local government provided every basic equipment needed, and I must appreciate the local government chairman immensely for his quality leadership.

"It takes a man who understands the pain of the downtrodden members of the society to attend to projects that have direct impact on the poor masses in rural communities. We have been hearing and seeing his intervention works in many areas like health, education, security, road construction poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, most especially the relative peace existing in the Council area and more. I pray that God will continue to give him the wisdom to continue the good work he is doing in Nkanu West", she concluded.
