The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday conducted its House of Representatives primary election for Enugu North and South Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Hon. Obiora Ugwu emerging victorious.
Ugwu secured 1,682 votes to defeat Barr. Chukwunonso Ogbe, who polled 241 votes, and Hon. Promise Chukwu, who garnered 81 votes.
The exercise, held across the constituency, was described by party stakeholders and observers as peaceful, transparent and credible.
Speaking after the election, Oluchukwu Nnajide, an agent of Barr. Ogbe, said the process was free and fair despite the outcome.
A party stakeholder, Mr. Eze Ejike, said Ugwu’s victory reflected his acceptance among party members and expressed confidence in his ability to represent the constituency effectively at the National Assembly.
Similarly, the PDP Woman Leader in Enugu North LGA, Miss Nkiruka Madu, urged the party’s candidate to carry all stakeholders along and assured him of the support of women in the area.
In his acceptance speech, Ugwu thanked party delegates and the electoral committee for conducting what he described as a transparent process. He pledged to provide effective representation for constituents if elected in 2027.
He also commended key leaders of the party, including Nyesom Wike and Samuel Anyanwu, for their contributions to the PDP.
