World 100m hurdles record holder and Africa’s top-ranked female athlete, Tobi Amusan, has made a strong comeback into the top 100 of the World Athletics women’s overall rankings.
Amusan, who first broke into the rankings at No. 96 in 2019, had dropped out of the top 100 last year for the first time. However, she has now climbed back to 88th place globally, with a ranking score of 1366.
This resurgence is fueled by a series of standout performances, including two 12.45-second runs and a season-best time of 12.24 seconds at the 2025 Paris Diamond League, where she finished second behind Grace Stark. The 12.24s mark is her fastest since setting the world record of 12.12 seconds in Oregon, USA, in 2022.
Amusan’s return to form has also seen her reclaim the position of Nigeria’s highest-ranked female athlete, surpassing Favour Ofili, who had ended 2024 as the country's top-ranked woman but has since dropped to 175th.
In the 100m hurdles category specifically, Amusan has climbed back into the global top 10, now ranked 9th, an improvement from her 13th place finish at the end of last year. With her performance trajectory on the rise, she appears poised to match or even exceed her exceptional 2022 season, during which she was the world’s leading sprint hurdler and finished fifth overall in the women's rankings.
