Abuja, February 2, 2026

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its National Convention, to be held in Abuja, for the election of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other statutory organs of the party.

The decision was reached on Monday at the end of the 105th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party held in Abuja.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, NEC unanimously reaffirmed all resolutions and decisions taken at the party’s Emergency 104th NEC meeting of December 7, 2025, stressing that all actions flowing from those resolutions remain valid, lawful and binding.

NEC also reaffirmed its confidence in the judiciary and the rule of law, welcoming the recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the PDP’s leadership structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee. The committee urged INEC and other relevant institutions to fully comply with the court ruling in the interest of constitutional order.

The committee further reiterated the legitimacy and authority of the National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu as Secretary, describing it as the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the conduct of the National Convention.

As part of preparations for a return to an elected leadership, NEC approved a nationwide congress timetable, with ward and local government congresses scheduled for February, while state congresses will hold in March. The National Caretaker Committee was directed to issue detailed guidelines and modalities in line with the PDP Constitution, INEC regulations and subsisting court judgments.

NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the National Convention and relevant congresses. It mandated the immediate activation of convention sub-committees and the commencement of full logistical and administrative preparations to ensure a transparent and credible convention.

The committee called on party members at all levels to remain united, disciplined and loyal, warning against actions capable of undermining party cohesion. It reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to rebuilding a strong, democratic and electorally competitive party capable of providing credible leadership to Nigerians.

The communiqué was signed by the National Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu.
