Enugu LGA Poll : Nkanu East PDP stakeholders unite for Edeh as state chairman hands party flag to the party’s candidate.

Nkanu East Local Government council headquarters was agog yesterday as stakeholders of the party rallied support for PDP candidate in the forthcoming Enugu State local government council election at Asụ Nkanu Development center, Amagunze..

The event which had the state party leadership in attendance was well attended by stakeholders of the party and massive supporters /members. 

In his welcome address, the Chairman of PDP in Nkanu East , Hon. Cornelius Ede, while welcoming the August visitors, admitted that the party had been the ruling party in the state since the advent of democratic governance , promising the electorate that the party will not disappoint them.

Director General of PDP Campaign Council in the LGA, Hon Okey Mbah and member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly , said the party would have no problem taking its campaign to the electorate, given the “exceptional” performance of the party’s candidate in his first term and that of the governor. 

He said the second coming of Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh and Paul Okwor will bring the LGA to new heights of development and prosperity.On his part, former member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly and SPA to the Governor on legislative matters Hon Paul Nnajiofor said: “The combination of Sydok and Paulo is the best a democratic society can get to deliver results of good governance. Anyone who wants the development of Nkanu East to continue, Sydney must be allowed to continue the good work he started”. 

He further described the PDP candidate as a good man full of humility. 

The state chairman of PDP, Hon. Dr Martin Chukwunwike, reacting to the massive turnout, said the massive attendance further confirmed the strength of PDP as the only party of choice in the state. He emphasized the need for unity and peace among party faithfuls, he further admonished everyone to ensure that the party candidate won 100% in their various polling units as the people-oriented initiatives of our Governor has made election victory assured. According to him the leadership styles of the State Governor, His Excellency Barr. (Dr) Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has strengthened the confidence of the people in the party and further boasted our dominance in the state.

Hon Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, the PDP candidate, mounted the rostrum to seek the mandate of the people of the Nkanu East for another term in office, saying the “Greater and united Nkanu East ” he promised at the inception of his administration could now be visualised, given the achievements recorded during his first term. Hon said the last term was challenging for his administration, pointing out that he traversed difficult terrains to deliver on development objectives. 

 "The completion of Iyiakpu Bridge ugbawka, rural electrification in some communities, Ojorowo concrete bridge, roads projects at Ugbawka among numerous projects will be tip of iceberg compare to what happened in his second term. 

He noted that, his leadership style upon assumption of office is to complement and consolidate the Governor's innovative works and economic transformation that is aptly reshaping the nooks and crannies of the State.

He further thanked the state chairman and his entourage for honouring the gathering with their presence. 

The stakeholders in their separate speeches welcomed the State Party Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assuring him of PDP's total victory at the polls on Saturday 21st September 2024. According to them Governor’s giant strides had done the much needed campaigns for all the candidates, which makes the winning smooth for PDP across the State. They applauded the Governor’s innovations, pragmatic and swift approaches to governance. 

The highlight of the event was the official hand-over of PDP flags to chairmanship candidate alongside his deputy and to all the councilorship candidates by the State Party Chairman, Dr. Martins Chukwunwike.

Other dignitaries that graced the occasion are, Hon Nnolim Nnaji, member representing Nkanu East/West at Federal House of representative, Hon Peace Nnaji, former member representing Nkanu East/west federal house of reps, Hon Rita Mbah, Executive Chairman Enugu State Tourism Board and member PDP Board of Trustee, Hon Prince Lawrence Ezeh, Commissioner, for science and technology, Hon Mrs Ngozi Enih Commissioner for gender affairs, Hon Arinze Arum, Executive Secretary Enugu State Gaming board, Hon Martin Agbo immediate past deputy chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon Chima Okorie, Commissioner for lands and urban development.

Others are Hon. Kingsley Udeh, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Enugu State, Hon Ekene Nnamani, Executive Chairman Enugu State internal generated revenue board, Hon steve Oruruo, State Deputy Chairman PDP, Hon Chris Mbah, retired permanent secretary, Hon Patty Okoh, state Treasurer,, Hon Nnamdi Nwafor, Enugu East Senatorial district chairman of the party, Hon. Ikechukwu Ubagu, former Chairman Nkanu East, Hon Sam Iyiogwe, former chairman Nkanu East, Hon Mrs Angela Ngene, former deputy chairman, Mrs Ngozi Ogbonna, former deputy chairman among many others.
