The Director General, Peter Mbah Campaign Organization, Chief Ikeje Asogwa has called on the party stakeholders and supporters to embark on massive mobilisation of the electorate and deployment of resources to deliver their polling units and wards to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Asogwa who made this call on Wednesday in Enugu during the inspection of the new campaign office said party stakeholders must go back to their people and mobilize them for the PDP victory.

According to him, every stakeholder will be judged by their capacity to deliver their wards for the party, saying it’s no longer time to work from the campaign headquarters, but to identify with people at the grassroots by showcasing the remarkable records of both the past and the present PDP administrations in the state, while stressing that the 2023 elections would be ‘operation deliver your ward exercise’.

“Now, our mission is clear as to where we are headed. Most people in Enugu State, like our stakeholders and teeming supporters are primarily expected to go back to the grassroots, go back home and make sure they win at their polling units. So, we are going to carry out what I call operation deliver your ward exercise. This is not the time everybody wants to come into Enugu and work from the state campaign headquarters. No! We need to go back home and tell our people what we are capable of doing, and what we are going to do, and also take them back memory lane to know what has been done already in every community in Enugu State because as I speak with you, the present administration has done, at least one, two, three, five or more laudable projects in every community. So we’ll go back and remind them, show them these projects, and then look at their additional needs and see how we can work together. When we win again which we will, we will also go back to those communities and execute more projects,” the DG said.

Asogwa who was recently announced as the DG Peter Mbah Campaign Organization via a press statement signed by the Head, Peter Mbah Media Office, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, expressed his appreciation to Barr. Peter Mbah, the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer in the state, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the leadership of the party and every card carrying member for reposing a huge trust in his capacity to give the party a resounding victory, promising to deliver remarkable votes for the party.

“By the special grace of God, my appointment as the Director General, Peter Mbah Campaign Organization is a welcome development. For me, this shows there’s a lot of confidence reposed in me. My family, my friends and well-wishers appreciate the appointment, and we want to tell the good people of Enugu State that we will deliver on the job,” he said.

The former State PDP Chairman further stated that the motivation behind his immediate deployment of resources was not unconnected with the confidence the party had in him. According to him, “The motivation behind my deployment of resources immediately I was appointed is that, for me to be singled out to come and carry out this onerous task, I feel that the next thing to do is to get the aircraft off the ground. To set the ball rolling. You know we do not have much time, and despite people saying there are five months for campaign which is an ample time, we must get prepared to take off first so that when the campaign starts, we won’t be at a loss. So, I thought it necessary that we put the necessary machinery in place, engage the necessary personnel and get off. And now we’ve started.”

While expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the elections with landmark record, the party stalwart stressed that the past and present PDP administrations had done well for the people in terms of good governance by raising their standards of living, creating employment, building new infrastructure, and lifting the state to an enviable status.

He said based on the remarkable antecedents of the previous and present administrations in the state, the PDP has been able to build a strong and virile foundation, becoming a household political party among the people. “We have built a foundation; very solid one that the PDP can stand on and proudly say, yes, we’ve done well and we intend to do more,” he added.

Reacting to the opposition’s claim that the 2023 general elections won’t be business as usual, Asogwa said the PDP has been in power since 1999 in the state and through the party, the state has witnessed exceptional developments in all the institutions and sections of the society, a feat which he attributed to the reason behind the party’s wide acceptance and popularity among the people.

Dismissing the presence of other opposition parties in the state as inconsequential and of no threat to the ruling PDP, Asogwa said the PDP was not perturbed by those envying them because the people were at home with the excellent performances of the party over the past years, adding that Enugu state wouldn’t have been voting PDP if it had not been doing well.

“The opposition parties in the state are reacting to my appointment because they’re scared. They understand the capability of the man that has been chosen to drive this responsibility. They know the capacities of whom they’re about to face. I do not blame them for their rampageous reaction, and I also feel sorry for them because when you’re going into a match and from day one you’re shown your opponent and you know you’re going to lose, you’ll definitely feel very bad.

“However, the opposition shouldn’t worry because we are doing this work for the progress of our state and for the interest of everybody in the state. At the end of the day, most of them will return to our train and we will carry them along so that we get the job done. They’ll come on board, so they shouldn’t be worried about whether we’ll admit them,” he further added.

Asogwa who expressed pity for the opposition parties in the state due to lack of capacity to make any visible political impact expressed confidence that many of them would run back to the PDP to take shelter in the coming days, stressing that as a party that is rooted in democracy, the door is open to them.
