UNICEF pledges support for Mbah's administration

Senior officials of UNICEF paid a congratulatory visit to the Governor-Elect of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah on his victory at the polls, at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu. The team was led by Prof Hamidu Ponfon, Chief of Social Policy, UNICEF Country Office Abuja and Mrs Juliet Chiluwe, Chief of Field Office UNICEF Enugu.

Expressing their pleasure at the content of Mbah’s manifesto, the UNICEF team noted that his social contract with the people of the state touches on critical elements which align with the objectives of UNICEF.

These included the planning mechanism component, the social protection component which talks about poverty eradication from Enugu State and the public financial management framework.

UNICEF offered to continue supporting Enugu State and increase their activities in the state during the administration of Dr. Mbah by giving a comprehensive support in areas of development planning, strengthening of the state’s management system, public financial system with respect to social policies as they affect women and children, and strengthening the health sector for improved maternal and neonatal wellbeing.

Dr. Mbah thanked the UNICEF team and promised an even stronger partnership between UNICEF and Enugu State government when he assumes office. Reiterating his commitment to disrupt the existing revenue model to raise more funds for the state, he stressed that his administration will strengthen primary health care, security and deployment of public accountability charter through an e-governance structure to enable Ndi Enugu view governance activities on dashboards.
