"Respond to Attacks on State Government" - Oruruo Charges 17 LG Media Aides

Ahead of the 2023 general elections in Enugu State, the Special Adviser, SPA to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Information, Barr. Steve Oruruo, has charged the Association of 17 Media Aides to the 17 LG Chairmen in Enugu State to always respond to attacks on the state government by opposition critics on social media.

The SPA who made the remark during a one-day-orientation workshop, organized by the media association, at Ascot hotel, Enugu, on 6th of August, 2022, also urged the LG media aides to promote the Enugu State People's Democratic Party, PDP governorship standard bearer for the February 2023 general election, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Barr. Oruruo while speaking on the topic, "The role of LGA media aides in the age of social media", highlighted some of the roles of media personnel to include creating and managing functional websites, Facebook pages, Twitter & Instagram accounts for their respective LGAs, to enhance effective information dissemination. 

The SPA to the governor on Information, who currently overseas the activities of Enugu State ministry of Information however, explained that "a professional LG media aide should be able to prepare video clip documentaries, a minute thriller, 5 minutes documentary on television every quarter, sponsor Commentaries and radio programs aimed at promoting the traditional and cultural beliefs of his LG."

Oruruo further explained that it was the duty of the LG media aides to project the PDP standard bearer in the state, Barr. Peter Mbah, stressing that "with the governorship flag-bearer, we are going to have a massive turnaround in Enugu.

"Under Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu State has delivered the highest rural projects in the state, and it is deliberate", said Oruruo. 

In his remarks, a Guest Speaker, Mr. Udenta Fidelis, who spoke during the program, explained that "a professional LG Media aide should first of all, take out his time to understand the identity of the job he was employed to do and why he was called."

 Mr. Udenta who is a former Head of the Department of Mass communication, Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu noted that "media aides should endeavor to serve with utmost integrity, while trying to satisfy the expectations of his principal.

"Furthermore, LG Media Aides must endeavor to carry the public along by providing balanced information, while meditating between them and his principal or government.

"You need to operate in such a way that even when your job ends, you won't have to face problems as a result of your actions while discharging your duty", Udenta advised.

Addressing the participants, the second guest speaker, Barr. Jonathan Chukwuma who is former deputy speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly and patron of the media group, spoke on "Future of Youths in Enugu Politics", stating that the youths should be preoccupied with making positive impact in public service, as that is the only way they could prosper in politics. 

Barr. Jonathan who is also SPA to the governor on Inter-Party affairs and Director General of Gburugburu Disciples, admonished the LG media aides to copy shinning examples of exemplary leaders across the globe, as a way of making them stand-out in the society. 

"You primary aim of joining politics should be to make positive impact and build others.

"Whenever you see someone who is doing well, feel free to copy him", he concluded.

Those in attendance were Solomon Gwiyi, SPA on Media to Uzo Uwani LGA and Convener of the Association; Jideofor Chijioke, SPA on Media to Ezeagu LGA and Secretary of the Association; Engr. Buchi Nnaji, SPA on Media and Publicity to Nkanu West LGA and publicity Secretary of the Association; Nze Williams Nwodo, Media aide to Igboeze North LGA and Ngwu Chikwado B., SPA on Media to Enugu North LGA. 

Others were Jerry Oloto, Media aide to Nsukka LGA; Ifebuche Chime W, SPA on Media to Enugu South LGA; Duhu Godwin A., Media aide to Isiuzo LGA; Austin Nwoke Jnr, SSA on Media to Oji River LGA and Chukwuemeka Mbah, SPA On Media and publicity to Nkanu East LGA, among others.
