The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home directive across the South-East, with effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.
According to IPOB, the decision was taken on the directive of its leader, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who urged residents to resume normal activities without fear or intimidation. The order applies to all sectors, including schools, markets, offices, transportation, and other economic activities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said any attempt to enforce a sit-at-home going forward would be regarded as a direct violation of Kanu’s instruction and contrary to the Biafran cause.
“All markets, schools, offices, transport services, and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow. The era of Monday sit-at-home is over,” the statement read.
IPOB also cautioned residents against possible false-flag actions or intimidation allegedly aimed at undermining the new directive, advising the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
The group further stated that no state governor has the authority to threaten or forcibly shut down the businesses of traders who choose to operate, adding that any market renovation or relocation must involve consultation with stakeholders and the provision of alternative trading locations.
IPOB called on South-East residents to return to work and ensure that children go back to school, reaffirming its commitment to unity, freedom, dignity, and justice.
The announcement signals a major policy shift by IPOB, bringing an end to the long-standing weekly sit-at-home that has significantly affected economic and social life in the region.
