The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, LGA, Hon. Uchenna Callistus Ejim has terminated the appointment of all the political office holders in the Council Area.

The notice of termination was contained in a letter signed by the Council Boss and made available to the public at the Council Secretariat, Agbani.

Recall that the appointment of the former Council Secretary, Hon. Offor Nnaji Offor was earlier terminated on 1st November, 2022. 

According to the letter, the termination of appointment of all the remaining political office holders which takes effect from 31st March, 2023 affects all Supervisors, Special Advisers, Special Assistants, Executive Assistants and Field Assistants.

However, the reason for his action could not be determined as at the time of filing this report, but a source close to the Chairman said "this cannot be unconnected with the sabotage and anti-party activities of some appointees in their various political wards and polling units during the just concluded elections." The source stressed that the action of the Council Chairman was necessary and long overdue, as most of the appointees have not been active in their various capacities and clearly worked against the progress of the Council.

Information gathered by AnchorNews reporters has it that in a bid to continue with good governance and service delivery to the good people of Nkanu West LGA, the Council Chairman has been reviewing the active roles and performances of all appointees and other relevant stakeholders, especially during the electioneering campaign and the 2023 general elections in the Council area, with a view to bringing consequences and reward system to bear for the overall good of his administration.

The 2023 general elections were widely adjudged to be characterized by anti-party activities and betrayals by party official at the local government and ward chapter levels and political office holders in Nkanu West LGA. 

The letter titled TERMINATION OF APPOINTMENT reads:

"The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, LGA wishes to inform appointees and the general public of the termination of all political appointments effective from Friday, 31st March, 2023.

"Consequent upon this, all Honourable Supervisors, Special Advisers, Special Assistants, Executive Assistants, Field Assistants and indeed anyone in possession of any belongings of Nkanu West Local Government Council is advised to return same to the office of the Deputy Chairman, Nkanu West LGA on or before Thursday, 20th April, 2023.
