Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume has joined the race for the office of President of the Senate in the 10th National Assembly to be inaugurated in June.

Ndume who lost out to the incumbent President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan in the race for the position in the 9th National Assembly told journalists that competence, not zoning should dictate the emergence of presiding officers.

He also argued that federal lawmakers be allowed to decide the leadership of the Parliament.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Army who secured a fresh mandate last February to represent his Senatorial district told newsmen that his leadership would “Put Nigeria and Nigerian interest first ” and work harmoniously and inter-dependently with the executive.

Also on his legislative agenda were political inclusion, power devolution, security and welfare of citizens, job creation, economic and infrastructural development and fight against corruption.

Ndume also assured that the 10th Senate under his leadership would ensure transparency through open accountability with the full participation of all Senators.

“We will pass the Constituency Development Bill to ensure transparency, equity, fairness, efficiency and effectiveness of constituency projects.”
