The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State recorded a major political outing as party leaders, stakeholders, and delegates from across the state converged for its State Congress held at the Rochas Okorocha Foundation Center, Emene Enugu. The event, which followed the successful conduct of ward and local government congresses, attracted party faithfuls from all the 260 political wards in the state, reflecting the enduring grassroots strength of the party despite its current status in the opposition.
The congress created an atmosphere of unity and renewed commitment among members, many of whom described the gathering as a clear demonstration that the PDP remains vibrant and deeply rooted among the people of Enugu State. Delegates, party officials, and supporters filled the venue in large numbers, signaling a growing momentum as the party reorganizes its structures ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general election.
Speaking at the occasion, the former caretaker chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Vitus Okechi, expressed delight over the impressive turnout and enthusiasm displayed by party members from across the state. He noted that the successful completion of the ward and local government congresses, culminating in the state congress, reflects the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy and transparent party processes. According to him, the large participation of party members demonstrates that the PDP continues to enjoy massive support across Enugu State even while operating as an opposition party.
A prominent highlight of the congress was the presence of respected party stakeholder and frontline governorship aspirant, Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani, popularly known as ODERA. Addressing party faithfuls, Chief Nnamani assured members that the PDP would reclaim its mandate from the current administration through unity, hard work, and sustained engagement with the people. He emphasized that the party remains the true political home of the people and expressed confidence that its structures and support base across the state would ultimately translate into electoral victory.
Chief Nnamani commended the electoral panel and the caretaker committee of the party for ensuring the smooth and credible conduct of the congress, describing the process as seamless and reflective of the party’s renewed commitment to fairness and inclusiveness. He also applauded party members across the state for their loyalty and resilience, noting that their unwavering support has kept the PDP strong despite political challenges.
In his remarks, he acknowledged the immense contributions of notable leaders and stakeholders of the party, including Nyesom Wike, Samuel Anyanwu, and elder statesman Jim Nwobodo, whom he described as pillars of the PDP whose leadership and dedication continue to strengthen the party nationwide.
At the congress, party delegates also elected new state executives to steer the affairs of the party. Hon. Vitus Okechi emerged as the State Chairman of the PDP, while Hon. Chinonye Okereke was returned as State Secretary through a consensus arrangement endorsed by party leaders and delegates.
Political observers at the congress noted that Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani has increasingly emerged as one of the key figures in the ongoing efforts to rebuild and reposition the PDP in Enugu State. Through consistent engagement with grassroots party structures and active participation in party activities, he has continued to play a significant role in fostering unity and strengthening the party’s presence across the state.
The congress concluded with a renewed sense of hope and determination among party members, many of whom expressed confidence that the PDP is steadily regaining its strength in Enugu State. With influential stakeholders such as Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani contributing to the party’s reorganization and mobilization efforts, the PDP appears poised to mount a formidable challenge in future elections.
