Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, has commissioned the Ezeagu Sports and Cultural Centre in Ezeagu Local Government Area, describing the facility as a significant milestone in grassroots development.
Speaking at the event, Ossai commended the Chairman of Ezeagu LGA for what he described as “an impressive level of development,” noting that the newly commissioned centre reflects the administration’s commitment to improving community infrastructure and promoting cultural and sporting activities.
“I am impressed with the level of development the council chairman has brought to Ezeagu. The facility we just unveiled on behalf of our Governor is an impressive one,” he said.
The Deputy Governor also conveyed the state government’s satisfaction with the performance of the council leadership, stating that the chairman had lived up to the expectations of the people.
He, however, charged residents to take collective responsibility for safeguarding the facility and other public assets in the area. “It is up to you to always take care of this facility and protect it, as a community, from vandalism or theft. The roads that have been built are also your responsibility to maintain,” he added.
Ossai emphasized the need for unity and continued support from the people of Ezeagu, assuring them of the state government’s unwavering commitment to policies and projects that improve citizens’ welfare.
“We ask for your unity, togetherness, and support. On our part, we will continue to recommit ourselves to serving you and improving the lives of our people,” he stated.
The Deputy Governor also used the occasion to celebrate renowned cleric and scholar, Rev. Msgr. Obiora Ike, who recently marked his 70th birthday. He described Msgr. Ike as a distinguished son of Ezeagu whose reputation continues to bring pride to the community and the state.
“We thank the people of Ezeagu for giving us the gift of Msgr. Ike. He is like a good product that sells itself. His name opens doors for us all,” Ossai said.
He encouraged citizens to honour the cleric’s legacy by upholding values such as integrity, honesty, and the fear of God, while pursuing actions that add value to humanity.
The commissioning ceremony attracted community leaders, government officials, and residents, marking another step in the state government’s efforts to drive inclusive development at the grassroots.
