In a bid to restore party discipline which has been lacking over the years, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named a 26-member disciplinary committee to be chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi.

National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, announced this in Abuja, on Friday.

Recall, that the party has been embroiled in crisis since its 2023 Presidential primary which former Vice President Atiku Abubakar won with 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, then Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory who polled 237 votes out of a possible 767.

Wike went on to lead a group of 5 PDP governors to openly campaign against Atiku and the party.

The Ikimi-led disciplinary committee has Eyitayo Jegede, SAN as its secretary.

Other committee members include Ex-Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Chief Olabode George, (BoT), Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen (BoT), Sen. Effiong Bob, and former Ag. National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje among others.

According to him, the Ikimi-led committee will be inaugurated alongside the National Reconciliation Committee headed by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Ologunagba said, “Following the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC) has constituted the National Reconciliation Committee and the National Disciplinary Committee of our great Party.

“The Committees will be inaugurated on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall, National Secretariat, Abuja at noon prompt.

“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, and teeming members of the PDP to remain focused and committed to the vision, principles, and aspiration of our great Party in the overall interest of the growth, development, and stability of the PDP and the nation.”
