For the disruption innovations, reforms and digitalisation of Enugu State tax policies, implementations and practices, which had helped in improving the state internal generated revenue and plugging leakages, Enugu State Board of Internal Generated Revenue Service, under the leadership of Mr. Ekene Nnamani bagged double award at
Nigeria Bureau of Public Service Reform Conference 2024 held at NICON LUXURY hotel Abuja recently.
Speaking during the awards presentation, Director General of BPSR Mr Dasuki Arabi , said that the Bureau of Public Service Reforms is the lead Agency and ‘Engine Room’ for integrated reform initiative, implementation, coordination and harmonization established in 2004.
According to him, Bureau introduced the institutional Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) as a practical approach to support government at all level in its vision to transform the Nigerian Public Service into a virile, well performing, professional and customer-oriented institution.
It is worthy of note that following the marching order by the President for the Bureau to deploy the SAT in all Federal and state ministries and Agencies, Enugu State Board Internal Revenue Service was one of the places this SAT was conducted and we found out that the agency exceeded expectations in all essential areas of responsibility, especially ICT and has performed above average and its main organizational goals are met.
According to him, “At the end of the self-assessment, the validation assessment and in-depth analysis of ESIRS operations, processes and systems, ESIRS performance is rated 70% and therefore, emerged ‘Nigeria Govtec public service award of year 2024 as the "best state revenue agency in ICT integration. The Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue Service exceeded Expectations in adaptation of ICT in revenue generation. The Chairman of the board of internal generated revenue Mr Ekene Nnamani was also honored with an award as "trailblazer" of state Revenue in Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Nnamani said that digitalization of the revenue collection in Enugu State is as a result of disruptive agenda of the Enugu State governor, His Excellency Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. He said it was the policies of the governor and support to the agency that made the whole thing possible. He further extol BPSR for carrying out the assessment on his agency. According to him, the deployment tool has revealed a lot of competencies and strengths that our has and which they will rely on overtime to transform it to greatness.
“I would like to thank your team for finding us worthy and for championing the reforms that are currently going on in the public service.
“I must say that your organization is doing wonderfully well and you need to be commended. , the BPSR is indeed achieving this significant milestone for the good of this nation,” he said.
The event was attended by Stakeholders, captains of industries and prominent individuals from government and private sectors.
