The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged involvement in human trafficking and related offences in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the E Division of the command is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, human trafficking, assault, extortion and defamation.
According to the statement, a 20-year-old complainant, Ebere Wilson of Wuntin Dada, reported that she was assaulted on February 11, 2026, and that her mobile phone — a blue Tecno Spark 4 — was seized by one Gloria Joseph.
Police investigations allegedly revealed that Joseph conspired with one Light Mandis to lure Wilson and her friend, Mercy, to Ghana for the purpose of prostitution.
The command said the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, human trafficking remains a major concern in Bauchi State. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has continued to record cases of both internal and cross-border trafficking in the state.
NAPTIP noted that traffickers often exploit poverty and use false promises of employment to deceive victims, particularly women and young people. The agency recorded at least 37 human trafficking cases in Bauchi State within the past year and has since secured convictions while intensifying public awareness campaigns to curb the menace.
