Celebrated Nigerian music producer, Michael Collins Ajereh, aka Don Jazzy, and renowned veteran singer, Daniel Oyebanjo, aka D’Banj, have seemingly reconciled after 12 years apart.
In a now-viral video posted on Friday by D’banj in collaboration with DonJazzy on Instagram, the duo (Don Jazzy and D’Banj) were seen hugging each other and sharing pleasantries.
The video was a promotional video for the release of Dbanj’s new single, ‘Since 04,’ whose lyrics suggest him paying tribute to the now defunct Mo Hit Records, to which he belonged and was a major stakeholder alongside Don Jazzy.
The video was also a post to celebrate comedian and social media influencer, Debo Adebayo, known as Mr Macaroni, who celebrated his birthday on Friday.
Writing the caption for the video post, D’Banj said, “It’s an Extra Special day because it’s not just since 04’s release, it’s also my brother’s birthday, Mr Macaroni. I must greet you speciaLEE on this day and wish you all the best and so much more as you age with grace. Oh boy @donjazzy big stepper, na you get this dance step oh, oosheeee. @mrmacaroni and @misstechy thanks for making this happen I enjoyed myself.”
Earlier on Thursday, D’Banj, posting pictures with Don Jazzy on Instagram wrote, “Brothers for life, It’s @donjazzy again. Bad boys Since 04. I must greet @mavingrandpa specially! Thanks for all the prayers and support since ‘04! Since ‘04 drops tomorrow, Ooossshhee.”
Mo Hit Records, founded in 2004 and co-owned by Don Jazzy and D’Banj, dominated the Nigerian music scene from 2004 on. However, after a rift in 2012, the duo went their separate ways.
The group then consisted of artists such as Don Jazzy, D’Banj, Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, among others.
After the breakup, Don Jazzy went on to establish another record label known as Mavin Records and took along with him, D’ Prince, Dr. Sid and Wande Coal. Subsequently, the renowned producer and MR’s CEO signed artists such Korede Bello, Di’Ja, Reekado Banks, Johnny Drille, Poe, and the DNA Twins.
On the flip side, D’Banj inked a record contract with American Kanye West’s “Good Music.”
He started DB Records and signed two producers, Jaysleek and Deevee, as well as his younger brother, K-Switch. Dbanj later signed Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, to the label.
