After months of political meetings, alignments rumours, permutations, realignments, speculations, tension, uncertainty, expectations, and anxiety over what becomes of APC in Enugu ahead of 2027 elections, the much expected and awaited day has come and gone for good on Tuesday October 12, 2025.

It was an epoch-making day, the much awaited for, and most sought for beautiful bride, Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah connected the coal city back to the centre years after the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost power at the centre in 2015 due to political miscalculation, dishonesty, negligence, arrogance, marginalization and pride.

The movement was not unexpected to many, particularly political watchers and observers. This is because of the manner and way the national leadership of the PDP managed the affairs of the party, especially as it affected southeast region before and after the 2023 election that threw up Governor Mbah as the only PDP Governor in the zone.

When the repeated requests, pressures, appeals, warnings and alarms by Governor Mbah and other PDP leaders from Southeast region for the national leadership of the PDP to do the needful fell on deaf ears and the intractable crisis rocking the party since after the 2023 presidential primaries continued unabated and unresolved, APC cashed in.

Seeing this window of opportunity and utilizing it, the ruling APC started poaching Governor Mbah, having seen in him and his style of governance and giant strides as valuable and irresistible political assets ahead of 2027 general elections.

Just as I had written in some of my previous published series titled: "2027 why Governor remains the most beautiful bride; where I categorically and emphatically analysed the expected political realignments, tsunami and dislocations in the Enugu State APC ahead of 2027 general elections and how those that had delusionally and arrogantly thought they would be stumbling blocks to Governor Mbah 's movement to APC would not only be dislocated, but would be crushed with ignominy and humiliations.

This happened as I foretold, simply because these political elements in Enugu APC before now who lacked political sagacity to understand the simple arithmetic of Nigerian politics refused to learn from political history and precedents. This was also elucidated and reiterated by the Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, in his speech, while receiving Governor Mbah and his supporters and Enugu people into APC at Okpara Square, Enugu.

Looking at political configurations and permutations ahead of 2027 general elections, Governor Mbah's movement to the APC is timely and to the advantage of not only the state, but the entire Southeast region, which Enugu represents and to the country's political stability and peaceful co-existence. The decision to move to APC was by all standards in the best and overall interest of the state and its people, especially as it has become obvious that PDP is no longer an option for the state for now, having been crisis-ridden and directionless.

Governor Mbah emphasized the above in his speech on that day of defection, where he allayed the misgivings and fears of some sceptics over the state’s movement to APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Demonstrating and proving that the Governor Mbah's movement to the APC alongside other elected and appointed political office holders in the state was in order and acceptable was the presence and support of the two former governors of the state- Barr. Sullivan Chime, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, major political leaders, youth organizations, traditional rulers, religious leaders, women organizations, mammoth crowd of teeming supporters, and the good people of Enugu State.

From all indications and standards, the event was a carnival of sort, and virtually no one was missing in action. It was also an affirmation of the tremendous and overwhelming support Governor Mbah's administration has enjoyed and is enjoying in the state ahead of 2027 general elections.

Besides, political party is just a Special Purpose vehicle that can easily be changed whenever it can no longer function well and every effort to repair it proves abortive. If not that it is statutory and constitutional to run election on political party platform, Governor Mbah needs no political party to win second term. His outstanding and stunning performance is enough to earn him a second term victory.

This is why since Governor Mbah connected Enugu State back to the centre of power and mainstream politics, the people of the state are happy and everywhere is calm.

This deft political masterstroke of Governor Mbah has placed Enugu State and by extension the entire Southeast region in a strategic and enviable position in the politics and governance of the country ahead of, during and after 2027 general elections.
