Rep member empowers 2,000 constituents with vehicles, scholarships

An Abia federal lawmaker, representing the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency at the National Assembly, Amaobi Ogah, has empowered over 2,000 constituents with empowerment materials worth millions of naira, with a call for constructive criticism.

The empowerment items include Sienna cars, motorcycles, lady motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, vulcanizing machines, generator sets, car wash machines, hair dryers, mini-buses, mini-pickup buses ultra-modern 9-seater tricycles, bags of fertilizers and various cash awards.

Speaking at the occasion, the lawmaker said the empowerment was to commemorate his one year in office as a lawmaker, stating, “I intend to provide leadership and beacon of hope” to his constituents.

Ogah who said that parliamentarians don’t have the resources, said he was doing the empowerment due to painstaking lobbying “to resolve the immediate challenges facing my people,” and I have been able to impact on the lives of my people with ground-breaking needs of the people.

He added that the empowerment does not represent his 2024 Christmas gesture, which will also come.

Recalling his achievements in the constituency in infrastructure, road construction, health, and education, Ogah disclosed that he has also given 22 constituents an all-expenses-paid scholarship, while his foundation has also given scholarships to more than 66 students.

Ogah who said his bill on Etiti State has scaled second reading, disclosed that he is making moves to make malaria treatment in Nigerian hospitals, free, adding that the empowerment “is the beginning of things to come and it would be a yearly affair.”

He used the occasion to call for constructive criticism “to enable us to move forward.”

Disclosing that he has been subjected to three court cases over his election victory, he advised his opponents to stop distracting him as his victory is divine. He expressed his desire to make the beneficiaries employers of labour and creators of wealth.

Earlier, the National Vice Chairman, South East of the Labour Party, Ceekay Igara, who stood in for the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure and also for himself said, “We sent him outside to go and bring democracy dividend. Amaobi is representing us very well and making us proud. His constituents are happy and he wants all to be better than he met them.”

A jubilant beneficiary of a mini-pickup and Ogah’s Senior Special Assistant on Women Affairs, who is from Nneato Zone 3, Umunneochi, Nneoma Lady Grace Ibeh, appreciated the lawmaker for the empowerment, stated that she will put the vehicle into good commercial use.
