Nkanu West Free Holiday Lesson winds up as Council Chairman offer scholarships to 24 Best Performed Students

The six weeks Free Holiday Lesson organized by the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Hon Uchenna Callistus Ejim in all the four development centers has come to an end with the Council Chairman awarding one year scholarship to 24 students with outstanding performances; six from each of the four lesson centres.

In addition, the Council Chairman distributed 10,000 copies of exercise books to students at various lesson centres to support their return to school after the long holiday. All the teachers and Neighbourhood security agents who participated in the program were also rewarded accordingly for their dedication and services while the program lasted.

Ejim who announced the scholarship awards during the closing ceremonies held respectively in the four development centers that make up Nkanu West LGA noted that the gesture was to encourage brilliant students in their academic pursuit whilst also spurring others towards excellence. 

The Council Chairman who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Oscar Chijioke Ngene stressed that his desire to invest more in education is in line with His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah's plan to raise the standard of education in Enugu State.

While addressing the students, teachers and parents at St. John's Primary School, Agbani, during the closing ceremony, Hon. Ngene noted that "the council is happy because the time and resources invested in this program yielded the expected positive result. Apart from keeping our children busy and off the streets during the long vacation, the free holiday lesson also offered them the opportunity to acquire additional knowledge to become more useful to themselves and the society. 

"I want to use this opportunity to inform you that the current administration of Nkanu West LGA under the leadership of Hon. Uchenna Ejim is determined to ensure that the younger generation enjoy quality education without any hindrance whatsoever.

"The scholarship awards and writing materials shared to the students here is to encourage all of them to aspire for academic excellence. 

"We are giving serious attention to all public institutions in Nkanu West LGA, including but not limited to public schools, health facilities, Security, construction of over 22 culverts & bridges, opening up of inter & intra-community link roads, construction of virgin 3.7km asphalt road with dual concrete drainage works in Ogirishi, Obinagu Uwani Akpugo, among other numerous people oriented projects cum programmes", Ngene stated.

Other lesson centres visited by the deputy chairman and his entourage include Boy's Secondary School Ozalla, Boy's Secondary School Akpasha, and Technical College, Akpugo.

Moreso, Hon Uche Ejim has offered to register 20 best CBT students in the just concluded one month free Intensive ICT Training Program for JAMB examination. According to the Chairman, the 20 students must posses at least five credits in their SSCE including English and Mathematics.

AnchorNews gathered that a total of 53 students participated in the one month Free Intensive Computer Training which took place at the well equipped Nkanu West ICT Training Centre, located at the Council secretariat, Agbani.

Some students who spoke to AnchorNews reporter on behalf of others at the various lesson centres expressed their gratitude to the Council Chairman and prayed for the success of his administration, promising to do their best to make Nkanu West proud in their academics.

At St. John Primary School, Agbani, a nonprofit organization known as Maka Odimma Amakpu Agbani also gave out scholarships worth two hundred thousand naira (#200,000) cash to eight best performed students from Agbani/Amurri zone.

While presenting the awards to the 8 benefiting students, the representative of the group, Mr Samuel Freeman Nnamani noted that "Maka Odimma Amakpu Agbani is a nonprofit organization that supports good governance in Nkanu West LGA and beyond. We appreciate the performance of the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Hon Uchenna Callistus Ejim who has broken an unprecedented record by successfully organizing 6 weeks Free Holiday Lessons, fully sponsored by the Local Government Council. 

"As a way of showing our appreciation, solidarity & support to the leadership of Hon Uche Ejim, we decided to reward brilliant students in our own way. With us here is 1,500 copies of exercise books and a cash of #200,000 to be distributed accordingly to the beneficiaries of the Free Holiday Lesson which has ended today", he said. 

Freeman thanked members of the Maka Odimma Amakpu Agbani, especially Mr. Akunnaya Moota for committing their resources towards the development of their community.

In company of the Deputy Chairman were the SLG Mr Sunday Nneji M, Leader of Nkanu West Legislative Council, Hon. John Okorie, the local government Supervisor for Education, Hon Tony Umanu, Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman on Political Matters, Hon. Emeka Nwodo, Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Hon. Paul Nwodo.

Others include the Councilors representing Ozalla, Hon Chukwuma Ani, Ibite Akegbe Ugwu, Hon Sunday, Akpugo Ward 1, Hon Chibuike Felix Ani. Others are Hon Chijioke Hector Nnaji, Senior Special Assistants to the Chairman among others.
