Rt. Hon. Sunday Nnaji, the councillor representing Akpugo Ward 3 in the Nkanu West Legislative Council, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nnaji, who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Security in the Nkanu West Legislative Council, tendered his resignation in a letter dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to the Enugu State Chairman of the APC through the Akpugo Ward 3 APC Chairman.
In the resignation letter obtained by our correspondent, the lawmaker stated that his decision to quit the ruling party was based on “personal grounds,” adding that his resignation takes immediate effect from May 6, 2026.
The letter reads in part:
“I wish to inform the leadership of our great party of my resignation as a member of the party with effect from 6th May, 2026 based on personal grounds.”
Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government, the Leader of the Nkanu West Legislative Council, Agbani, and the Nkanu West Local Government APC Chairman.
The development is already generating political reactions within Nkanu West and the wider Enugu political landscape, especially as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
Further details are expected later.
