Recall that the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah had, after an extensive town hall meeting of stakeholders, called on all citizens and residents across the 17 local government areas of the state to shun the erstwhile Monday sit-at-home, and go about their lawful businesses without any fear whatsoever.
The Council Chairman further stressed that "in order to ensure that the people of Nkanu West LGA heed to the directive of our dear Governor, His Excellency Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on the abolishment of Monday sit-at-home in Enugu State, I have decided to change the visiting days for the Chairman's Office from the usual Tuesdays and Thursdays to Mondays only. Henceforth, whoever want to see me for any official purpose must come to my office on a Monday.
"As we know, Governor Peter Mbah's administration is business unusual, hence, we in Nkanu West LGA must braze up and join our dear Governor in repositioning Enugu State for foreign direct investment, local investments and overall economic prosperity", Ejim said.
Earlier, members of Nkanu West Legislative Council, made up of the 14 Honourable Councilors representing the 14 political wards in the council area paid a solidarity visit to the Chairman in his office at the Council Secretariat, Agbani. The Councilors who were in a joyful mood, presented an enlarged photo frame measuring about 6x4 fts to Hon. Ejim as a way of showing appreciation to the Council Chairman for the cordial relationship that exists between his office and the legislative arm and also the peace that pervades the whole of Nkanu West LGA under his watch.
Speaking on behalf of the Councillors, the Councilor representing Akpugo Ward 3, Hon Sunday Nnaji thanked the Council Chairman for his good leadership quality. He noted that "Nkanu West LGA is experiencing an exceptional leadership under your (Ejim) administration. We are here to commend you for the ongoing construction of 3.7km asphalt road with double concrete drainage in Obinagu Uwani Akpugo community.
"We the Councilors also appreciate the gesture of the works department to have executed constituency projects in all the fourteen electoral wards of Nkanu West LGA amongst other interventions in health, education and human capital development. Thank you for the opportunity you gave us to construct one culvert each in the 14 political wards of Nkanu West LGA. Our people have truly felt the impact of your administration even as we expect more."
Conferring the title of "Prince of Nkanu Land" on Ejim, the Councilors, through their spokesperson observed that "so far, Hon. Ejim is the only Council Chairman in Enugu State who has paid wardrobe, stationery allowances to all the Councilors among others. It is also on record that before now, no local government chairman served for a complete 2 years without having rancor with the legislative arm, but we are glad that Hon Uche Ejim has broken that jinx. The reason for achieving this cordial relationship may not be far from the fact that the Council Chairman, having previously served as a Councillor for four years understands the administrative system and pattern of governance. He attends to our demands without delay, and for all those reasons I have mentioned, we have come to appreciate him with this giant photo frame.
"Honestly Mr Chairman, you have shown adeququate capacity as a leader, and we are very delighted to work with you for the overall good of our people whom we are here to serve", he said.
Also speaking, the Leader of Nkanu West Legislative Council, Hon. John Okorie reiterated the determination of the legislative arm of the local government to continue to partner with the Executive for quality service delivery.
Responding, the Executive Chairman, Hon Ejim thanked the Honourable Councillors for the show of love, solidarity and cooperation. "This gesture of yours no doubt will spur me on, even to go beyond boundaries in my service to the people of Nkanu West LGA" he noted.
In attendance were the Secretary of the LG Council, Hon. Sunday Edeh, Honourable Councillors, five Honourable Supervisors, HPM, TR, HOD works, HOD PRS and a host of other aides.
