2027: Wike Warns – “Bringing Obi Back Will Ruin PDP”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks collapse if it considers readmitting Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike argued that the PDP had failed to learn from the costly mistakes of the 2023 elections. He recalled how he and some other party leaders had warned against the decision to allow both the presidential candidate and the party’s national chairman to emerge from the North, describing it as unfair and politically reckless.

“From the very beginning, I told my colleagues in the PDP that they were digging their own grave. How can you field a presidential candidate and also retain the national chairman from the same region? That is injustice and a disaster waiting to happen,” Wike stated.

The former Rivers State governor accused the PDP leadership of ignoring repeated calls for balance and fairness, insisting that their arrogance led to the party’s humiliating loss at the polls.

“They grabbed the presidential ticket and also clung to the chairmanship. I said it would backfire, and it did. I have no regrets about my stance,” he added.

Wike maintained that for stability and justice, power must shift to the South. He further dismissed speculation about Obi’s possible return to the PDP, warning that such a move would be both hypocritical and destructive.

“Bring Obi back to do what? To destroy the party? This is the same man who openly condemned the PDP, branding it rotten. Now suddenly it’s good enough for him? Ambition can drive people anywhere, even to Satan’s doorstep,” Wike declared.

According to him, reabsorbing Obi would strip the PDP of any remaining ideological footing and worsen its internal crisis.

“If you truly want to end this party, then bring Obi back. It won’t be about principle or ideology anymore - just raw ambition,” he warned.

Wike concluded by reaffirming his long-held position that only equity, justice, and adherence to zoning can restore PDP’s national relevance.
