…Obi, others can go to hell, Edeoga fires back
By Andrew Okereke
All may not have been well with the embattled Enugu Labour Party guber candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga as the relationship between him and his party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi gets sour as a result of his insistence to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that sacked him and ordered a fresh primary to be held in the state.
Recall that the Labour Party national office had, last week, lashed Chijioke Edeoga for orchestrating the crisis rocking the party in Enugu State.
On Wednesday, in an apparent resentment for Edeoga, Obidients in the state had gone on social media to lampoon and mock the embattled gubernatorial candidate for the cold hand and rejection he received from the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Enugu when he visited the wedding ceremony of Dr. Ifeanyi Eric Okoye’s son.
According to our correspondent, Andrew Okereke, who was present at the event, Edeoga on hearing that Obi had arrived the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, hurriedly canceled his campaigns in order to identify with the presidential candidate, but was met with stiff resistance when the Labour Party national officials ordered the security men to deny him access to Mr. Peter Obi at the event.
All efforts to persuade the security agents to give way fell on deaf ears as Obi’s chief detail insisted that his principal had not visited for politics but strictly on a private function.
In a five minute address to his supporters after the event, Mr. Obi admonished them to be hopeful and to be distracted by the legal tussle rocking the party at the state level, saying the mission to salvage Nigeria is one for the entire Nigerian citizens, and not for the Labour Party members alone.
He issued a stern warning to the political gladiators in Enugu Labour Party to desist from using him as a validating cover to sell their projects since his agenda and mission are totally different from theirs.
“I specifically do not know why Peter Obi should be used as a pitch by other candidates in our party to sell themselves to the people. We are different entities with different goals. You must not identify with me before you win any election, your personality should promote you naturally. I wouldn’t want this idea of politicizing any event I attend. This is mostly seen in Enugu State. Please, it is not about Peter Gregory Obi, it is about Nigerians,” Obi maintained.
Venting his frustration, the embattled Labour Party aspirant warned that Labour Party would not win any seat or even a single polling unit if the presidential candidate does not re-order his steps. Edeoga, who was visibly fuming, was heading tell people that Obi and his Obidient gullible youths can go to hell as he would win without their support.
“Who are they? They can go to hell. We can win without them,” he retorted.
