The Enugu State Government has announced the verification exercise for the Next of Kin (NOK) of deceased pensioners in the state.

According to a press release by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor  Chidiebere Onyia, the verification exercise will take place on Thursday, April 25, and Friday, April 26, 2024.

Onyia stated that "the purpose of this exercise is to ensure the accurate processing and disbursement of benefits to the families of deceased pensioners".

Requirements For Next of Kin Verification

To participate in the verification exercise, the following requirements must be met:

1. Information about the NOK:
* Full Name:
* Account Details:
* Bank Verification Number (BVN):
* Valid Accessible E-mail:
* Residential Address:
* Phone Number:

2. Documents to Bring:
* Pension Authorization
* National Identity Number (NIN) or Voter's Card
* A Passport Photograph of the NOK
* Affidavit confirming the status of the NOK.
* Death Certificate, Burial Poster, or Burial Program
* Bank Statement of the deceased pensioner's account, detailing transactions from the date of death until the current date

3. Separate Account Requirement for Living Pensioners with Joint Accounts.

Living pensioners who hold joint accounts with another person (where both names are listed together) must open a separate individual account for their pension payments. If both pensioners are using one of the other's account, the second person must also open a separate account. This requirement is essential to ensure smooth processing and accurate disbursement of pension benefits.

Note:
•    Please ensure you have all the required documents and information ready before attending the verification exercise. Failure to present the necessary documents or having a joint account (for living pensioners) could delay the verification process.
•    This schedule is only for local government pensioners.

Your participation in this verification exercise is crucial to ensure proper record-keeping and rightful disbursement of pension benefits to the families of deceased pensioners.
