The British Government has officially opened applications for the Chevening Scholarships, offering Nigerians and citizens of other countries the opportunity to pursue fully funded master’s degrees in the United Kingdom. The application window runs from 5 August to 7 October 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the British High Commission in Abuja, it was highlighted that the Chevening programme supports individuals committed to creating positive change both in their home countries and around the world. Applicants are encouraged to apply through chevening.org/apply, and to explore the guidance materials available at chevening.org/guidance to prepare a competitive submission.
With a legacy spanning over four decades, Chevening has received hundreds of thousands of applications globally. The programme seeks candidates who can provide strong, evidence-based examples of leadership, influence, and networking capabilities.
Emma Hennessey, Head of the Scholarships Unit at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), stated:
“Chevening’s rigorous selection process ensures that our scholars and fellows are among the brightest and most driven individuals worldwide. Alumni return home equipped with a world-class education, global networks, and the confidence to effect real and lasting change — whether by addressing global issues or making a local impact.
“If you possess the leadership qualities, influence, and networking skills we’re looking for, I highly encourage you to apply. And if you’re not ready just yet, take the time to develop the experience needed for a strong application. The Chevening community continues to inspire me with their dedication, and I look forward to what the next generation will achieve.”
Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, added:
“Chevening goes beyond being a scholarship — it’s a gateway to a global community of leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Whether you aim to influence public policy, start a business, or tackle critical global issues, this opportunity allows you to pursue a master’s degree in the UK with full financial support.
“We are looking for individuals with the drive, ideas, and influence to spark positive change in Nigeria and beyond. Our alumni are making notable contributions across various sectors. If you see yourself as someone capable of making such an impact, don’t miss the chance to apply before the 7 October 2025 deadline.”
Since its launch in 1983, Chevening has helped over 60,000 professionals further their careers, underscoring the UK’s dedication to supporting future global leaders.
