The Kaduna State Government has announced that it will begin offering free bus transportation to civil servants, retirees, and students starting Monday under its Subsidised Transport Scheme (KSTS).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr. Inuwa Ibrahim, Director-General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA).

According to Ibrahim, the daily free bus service will operate for an initial period of six months, with the aim of reducing transportation difficulties faced by vital segments of the population. Beneficiaries will include students from both public and private institutions, spanning primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

The initiative, he explained, aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s broader agenda to ease the cost of living for residents across the state.

Following the six-month free service period, the government plans to introduce a 60% fare subsidy for the general public to sustain the initiative.

The Director-General emphasized that the scheme will be implemented in a structured and secure manner, adhering strictly to established guidelines to guarantee efficient service.

“Civil servants will be allowed access to the buses upon presentation of valid staff identity cards along with their National Identification Number (NIN), to ensure only legitimate government employees benefit,” Ibrahim stated.

Students, on the other hand, will be granted access by appearing in full school uniforms, while personnel of recognized security agencies will also benefit, subject to proper identification.

The free bus service will cover three main routes, as outlined below:

Route 1: Rigachikun – Kawo Kasuwa – Sabo – Sabo Kasuwa – Kawo – Rigachikun

Route 2: Rigachikun – Kawo – Independence Way – Yakowa Road – return via Yakowa Road – Independence Way – Kawo – Rigachikun

Route 3: Tudun Wada – Poly Road – Sokoto Road – Kawo and return via Kawo – Sokoto Road – Poly Road – Tudun Wada

Commuters have been urged to maintain order while boarding, avoid rushing or jumping queues, and comply with regulations throughout the duration of the programme.

It’s worth recalling that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, during his visit to Kaduna on June 19, 2025, commissioned 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses at Murtala Mohammed Square, marking a key step toward eco-friendly mass transportation in the state.
