Ogun State, Nigeria - In a show of solidarity with the federal government, the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, amid growing security challenges across the nation.
The endorsement was announced by the permanent chairman of the council, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, following a meeting held at the private residence of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
Oba Ogunwusi stressed the crucial role of traditional institutions as grassroots representatives, noting that their support would help bolster national efforts to tackle insecurity, including banditry and other forms of criminal activity. “Traditional rulers from Southern Nigeria will not leave the president alone at this critical time,” he said, highlighting that the vote of confidence is a sign of regional solidarity.
Attending the meeting were other prominent Southern traditional rulers, including the Alafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade; the Dein of Agbor, Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi; and the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Obalanlege, alongside other leaders from across the Southern regions.
The council’s backing underscores the continued collaboration between Nigeria’s traditional leadership and the federal government in addressing security challenges at the community level.
