The Nkanu East Local Government Chairman, Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, has commenced the rehabilitation of the collapsed Ojorowo bridge linking Agbani, Ugbawka to Nara, Nkerefi, Mburubu, Nomeh and other communities in the council area.

The chairman has also perfected plans to intervene in other affected bridges, including the Ovu Nkerefi bridge, saying he would complete all the projects that his predecessors started, such as the Ojorowo concrete bridge.

The Ojorowo iron bridge had collapsed yesterday after a truck carrying load rammed into it, causing a major dislocation and extensive damage to the bridge.

While assessing the impact of the damage, yesterday, the chairman said he would waste no time in fixing the bridge as that would facilitate movements in persons and goods, and help them in their businesses.

He explained that his administration would give urgent intervention to the badly damaged bridge because of the Christmas and new year season which would lead to a high commercial activity in the area.

Hon. Edeh, who was at the site, weekend, to inspect the rehabilitation, noted that the local government would do a solid job that would have a lasting impact.

“We’ve carried out assessment for integrity test yesterday and ascertained the level of damage. You can see that our men were immediately mobilised to carry out the remedial work without wasting time because we want to reduce the hardships this unfortunate incident could occasion.

“Governor Peter Mbah’s governance philosophy is what we’ve just keyed into. That has to do with time of intervention because we are business focused. We can only achieve the vision and mission of the governor’s administration by being proactive in our approach.

“I want to commend the governor for his support for this local government area and for the good work he is doing in the state. We have already started fixing and constructing some modern bridges and roads, and we will not rest until we achieve our goals.

“I want to assure our people that we are intentional about bringing holistic development and we’ll continue to do our best in social services, empowerment and infrastructure,” he added.

He further noted that work would soon commence at the Ojorowo concrete bridge started by his predecessor, assuring that it would be completed within time.
