The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that its leading presidential hopefuls—Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi—are collaborating with a shared objective of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

The disclosure came during the unveiling of 1ADC, a political movement designed to unite party members and supporters across different age groups, social backgrounds and political interests. The initiative is part of the party’s strategy to strengthen its base and prepare for what is expected to be a fierce presidential contest in 2027.

National Coordinator of the 1ADC Movement, Lauretta Onochie, said the platform would enable supporters of Obi, Atiku and Amaechi to work together toward a common goal. According to her, the movement demonstrates that political actors with different interests can still unite under a shared vision.

“We are here to inform the world, the state and our political leaders that we have come together to be united as one ADC,” she said, noting that while disagreements are inevitable in politics, the party must place its collective objective above personal ambitions.

Onochie added that the party would prioritise unity after its primaries and discourage anti-party activities, while expanding its reach to grassroots communities, youths and economically disadvantaged Nigerians. She explained that the 1ADC movement was created to reduce internal divisions and mobilise voters ahead of the next general election.

Former ADC National Chairman, Dr Ralphs Nwosu, also said the adoption of the party as a coalition platform was intended to provide Nigerians with an opportunity to reclaim their country.

According to him, the leadership of the party deliberately created a structure that allows citizens to take ownership of the political platform rather than leaving it solely in the hands of politicians. He urged Nigerians to take active roles in shaping the country’s political future to prevent deeper national crises after the 2027 elections.

Nwosu further described the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, as a “military tactician” capable of standing firm against political pressure. He added that the ADC’s digital membership registration campaign has already attracted millions of Nigerians within a few months, reflecting growing interest in the party’s platform.

The development signals an early attempt by opposition figures to build a broad coalition capable of challenging President Tinubu and the APC in what is already shaping up to be a highly competitive 2027 presidential race.
