The All Progressives Congress APC e-registration exercise has continued to gain momentum in Enugu State as the Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON, Enugu State Chapter, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, formally flagged off the exercise in his ward, Ugbawka Ward 1.
The event attracted a large gathering of party supporters, community leaders and political stakeholders, reflecting growing grassroots support for Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Hon. Edeh described the governor’s re-election as non-negotiable.
Addressing party faithful, the ALGON chairman said Governor Mbah’s decision to align Enugu State with the APC and the federal government was a strategic step that is already delivering positive results for Ndi Enugu. He noted that, for the first time, people of Ugbawka are witnessing tangible dividends of democracy across various sectors.
He added that the governor’s alignment with the ruling party would not slow down the pace of development in the state but would rather open more opportunities for greater projects and improved service delivery. According to him, the impact of the administration’s performance is evident across sectors and visible to the people.
Hon. Edeh cited the appointment of a commissioner from Ugbawka which is the first of it kind in Ugbawka, particularly in the Ministry of Works, as a clear demonstration of inclusion and purposeful governance.
The council chairman thanked Ugbawka people especially ward 1 for their massive turnout, contrasting it with previous years when similar exercises recorded low participation due to unmet expectations from past governments.
“Before now, our people did not take exercises like this seriously because of failed promises from the past. Today, everywhere is filled, which clearly shows that the people are satisfied with the performance of Governor Mbah,” he said.
He further stated that the governor has mesmerized Nkanu East through several infrastructure projects and other democratic dividends, leaving the people with strong reasons to continue supporting his administration.
Hon. Edeh explained that since assuming office, Governor Mbah has not interfered with local government funds, a policy he said has empowered council chairmen across the state to execute road projects and other legacy initiatives previously considered unattainable at the local government level.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Onu Nwodo, a former national executive officer of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, described Governor Mbah’s leadership as exceptional and called on the people to continue supporting his administration.
Also speaking, the Enugu State Coordinator of the APC e-registration exercise, Chief Flavour Eze, commended Hon. Edeh for replicating the governor’s development agenda at the grassroots, particularly the ongoing 13-kilometre road project in Ugbawka. He praised the enthusiasm displayed by party supporters and emphasized the importance of the digital registration exercise in building a credible, transparent and inclusive membership database for the party.
He urged all eligible residents to register promptly, noting that a strong party structure is essential ahead of future elections.
The flag-off ceremony attracted several political figures and stakeholders, including Hon Kelvin Ede, coordinator, Apc E-registration Enugu East Senatorial district, Hon. Prince Ifeanyi Onuoha, Chief of Staff to the Nkanu East LGA Chairman; Hon. Benjoe Ogenyi, former Deputy Chairman of Nkanu East LGA; Hon. Prisca Okeke, Special Assistant on Students to the Executive Governor of Enugu State; Hon. Afam Ede, Special Political Assistant to the Chairman; and Hon. Uche Egbonwaonu, a former APC Chairman in Nkanu East LGA, among others.
Team also made a step at Ugbwaka ward 2, as to monitor the progress of the excise there.
The exercise in Ugbawka reflects a wider push for massive APC enrollment across Enugu State following Governor Mbah’s defection to the party in October 2025 alongside several stakeholders from the PDP. Similar exercises in other wards and local government areas have seen party members rally support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Mbah, citing the benefits of alignment with the federal government, including stronger partnerships and accelerated infrastructure development in the state
