The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah has expressed deep sadness and grief over the passing of the Enugu State-born lawyer, Dr Khrushchev Ekwueme, extolling him as “one of Nigeria’s finest, globally renowned, peerless lawyer in international maritime, arbitration, dispute resolution and public interest litigation”.

Mbah in a statement personally signed by him and issued by his media office in Enugu, on Saturday, described his demise as “a great loss to Enugu State and the legal profession where he distinguished himself with many indelible contributions to his credit”.

The statement reads in parts:

“Dr. Ekwueme’s sudden demise is, indeed, a devastating blow and a colossal loss to the legal profession, in which he had immensely expanded the frontiers of knowledge as an author, litigation counsel and visiting research scholar at the Harvard Law School, United States “.

“Dr. Ekwume epitomized humility, dedication, commitment and integrity in his pursuit of justice for all. He was a rare gem whose positive impact in our society will continue to resonate hope, justice, equity and selfless service to humanity”.

“I acknowledge Dr Ekwueme’s role as a facilitator to the Peter Mbah Campaign Organization. He will always be remembered for his profound ideas, and tenacious belief in government as an instrument for the promotion of public good.”

“Dr Ekwueme and I shared similar belief in the possibility of an Enugu State where the amenities and lifestyles we see in developed countries will be enjoyed by our people. He was totally committed to our cause and provided sound  counsel to our team. His exit at this time is unfortunate and regrettable.”

“Even as we join members of the noble legal profession, learned jurists, and distinguished minds from all walks of life to mourn this irreplaceable loss, I want to salute his unexampled leadership skills, sense of justice and legacies that next generation of lawyers will strive to emulate”.

“Words alone; not even the best of the words, could describe his place in our hearts. We will continue to miss him".

“Our thoughts and prayers are always with his family at this difficult time”.
